Freddie Mercury: Brian May praises Japan’s Queen Super Fireworks 'Lovely work!' – WATCH

Japan has a huge Queen fan base, with Bohemian Rhapsody being the No 1 movie of 2018 in the country last year. And this November, they’re celebrating Freddie Mercury’s band with Rhapsody in the Sky/Queen Super Fireworks.

A tribute to Queen and officially approved by the band, Japanese fans get to watch 13,000 fireworks that are “perfectly synchronised to some of the greatest hits such as Somebody to love, We will rock you and the film’s soundtrack the unparalleled Bohemian Rhapsody”.

The Queen Super Fireworks takes place on three evenings across November, with the first having already been on Sunday 3rd at Maishima Sport Island in Osaka.

While last night the show was performed at Urayasushi Total Park in Chiba.

Queen guitarist Brian May has since shared a video from the event, praising the show, but also admitted his concerns about fireworks’ affects on animals.

May wrote: “Lovely work ! I have mixed feelings about firework displays these days.

“I used to love them as a kid. But now I know that many pets and wild animals literally get scared to death, I would be inclined to limit them by law to licensed displays, and limit the percussive element.

“After all, they are about visual beauty- right ? Why subject every creature within earshot to endless repetitive bangs ?

“And this now goes on for a whole month in the UK. I would limit it to one night per year.”

On Queen Super Fireworks, May has previously said: “Japan is a special place for Queen.

“We are very excited to hear that the Japanese traditional fireworks will light up the sky with our music.

“In 2020, we will be coming back to Japan for a tour, so it’s great that there are many opportunities for the fans to enjoy our music.

“I wish I can be there to see it!”

While Queen drummer Roger Taylor added: “Japan was one of the first countries to welcome us.

“I was very surprised to see the reactions of the fans when I first came to Japan.

“It was almost like a firework. It’s been 50 years since then, and it’s great that there is a firework event with Queen’s music.

“Hope you enjoy the Queen fireworks this year and our tour next year!”
