17:40: Three years ago, Tsitsipas was a hitting partner for the top eight players and posed for a picture with Thiem.

And Thiem says Tsitsipas always had the talent to turn his promising junior career into success at senior level.

He said: “That was the first time I met him, 2016 here, as a hitting partner. Of course I saw that he’s playing great, but I didn’t put so much attention on it because other things to focus on.

“And then he came on tour, and we played our first match last year in Doha, like two years ago almost, and there I saw and I also felt his amazing potential.

“Then at the end of the year already he was No. 14 or 15, and then everybody could see where his direction goes, like, only up, only in absolute world class.

“Well, he really deserves it. He’s a good person. He’s a very good player with a very attractive style to watch, so it’s good to have him.”

17:30: Last year, Alexander Zverev won his maiden ATP Finals title and failed to push on.

But there is hope that Thiem and Tsitsipas can break the dominance of the ‘Big Three’ in 2020. And victory of either man would go a long way to proving that.
