Xbox Scarlett vs PS5: Xbox 2 could beat PlayStation 5 in launch line-up games battle

Microsoft has given itself a big boost ahead of next-year’s battle between the Xbox 2 and PS5.

With the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett consoles launching in late 2020, Microsoft has started to power up the hype machine in preparation for the release date.

And unlike the Xbox One – which seemed to be doomed from the moment it was announced – the next-gen Xbox 2 is already looking like a real competitor.

In the wake of an X019 event in which Microsoft announced multiple new games, the company told fans to expect even more announcements throughout the coming year.

Indeed, according to Xbox Game Studios boss Matt Booty, X019 was just the “the tip of the iceberg” (via VGC).

“We’re going to show you some amazing things [at X019], but before the end of the year we will show you even more games and then as we go into 2020, I think you will see one of the most exciting line-ups that we’ve had from Xbox Game Studios in as long as I can remember.

“We’re going to round up the end of the year showing you even more games and then as we head into 2020 and into spring, I really want you to be on the lookout for the games that we’re going to be announcing heading into that stretch.”

With Halo 6 already announced for the Xbox 2, fans could be looking at one of the best launch line-ups in gaming history.

Indeed, Microsoft has got so many unannounced games in its back pocket, that it doesn’t know what to do with them all.

“It’s really exciting,” Booty continues. “For the first time ever we’ve in a way got more games than we know what to do with in terms of when they’re going to be announced.

“We’re feeling really good about that.”

The next wave of Xbox games will greatly benefit from Microsoft’s new and improved console, which has a holiday 2020 release date.

Microsoft recently revealed that Project Scarlet would be four times more powerful than the Xbox One X when it comes to processing power, meaning a big jump in TFLOPS.

This will be achieved through a new generation of chip design and hardware that will be aiming for 8K Resolution flawless frame-rates.

“Project Scarlett will set a new bar for console power, speed and performance, arriving Holiday 2020 alongside Halo Infinite,” Microsoft explains.

“Powered by a custom-designed processor, leveraging the latest Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA architecture from our partners at AMD, Project Scarlett will deliver a new level of immersion.

“Paired with high bandwidth GDDR6 memory, and a next generation solid state drive (SSD), Project Scarlett will provide developers the power they require to bring their creative visions to life.

“Featuring hardware accelerated raytracing, variable refresh rate, 8K capability and ultra-low latency input, Project Scarlett will deliver a new level of fidelity, precision and accuracy never before seen in console gaming.

“With Project Scarlett, we continue our commitment to compatibility by ensuring your gaming accessories and Xbox career will also move forward with you, along with thousands of games across four console generations which will look and play best on Project Scarlett.”
