West of Dead open beta live for Xbox One free gamers with X019 reveal

Gamers looking for something new to try this weekend can download and play an open beta right now on Xbox One.

The open beta for West of Dead was announced during X019, including gameplay details.

“Purgatory, Wyoming, 1888. A place of gun smoke and darkness, sin and damnation, wendigos and witches,” the official game description explains.

“A shifting, chaotic world that takes its form from the memories, culture or beliefs of the souls who pass through.

“When a dead man awakens with only the memory of a figure in black, he sets into motion a chain of events that have truly mythic consequences.

“Step into the boots of the dead man William Mason (voiced by Ron Perlman) and descend into the grim and gritty world of Purgatory in this fast-paced twin-stick shooter that’ll put your skills to test.

“Dodge behind cover as you try to outgun your enemies in the unknown procedurally generated hunting grounds. The Wild West has never been this dark.”

West of Dead is in development at Upstream Arcade and being published by Raw Fury.

The free open beta can be downloaded now from the Microsoft Store and is easy to fit on your console. The official description confirmed that the West of Dead Open Beta is under 2GB to download on Xbox One and Xbox One X.

X019 also saw the reveal of new projects in the works from developers Rare. This includes a new IP called Everwild, which is still in early development and yet to be given a release date.

“At this evening’s X019 event in London, we were able to share with fans some of the incredible things that the different teams at Rare have been working on. This included talking about the next monthly update for Sea of Thieves, as well as giving fans a first glimpse of the next new IP from Rare, Everwild,” a message from Rare explains.

“It reminds me of the last time we made two big announcements at an event, which was E3 2015 where we announced Rare Replay and showed the world the first glimpse into our unique vision for Sea of Thieves. This feels as big a moment for Rare as it did in 2015.

“While Everwild is still early in development, we are very excited about the unique potential of the game we are creating. The Everwild team is focused on building an experience that allows for new ways to play in a natural and magical world.

“The development team, led by Executive Producer Louise O’Connor, is creating something truly original and incredibly special that aims to be more than just a new IP. Everwild will give you memorable, engaging and meaningful experiences for players everywhere to share. We cannot wait to share more with you in the future.”
