The rumours come four years after it was alleged that the pair had briefly dated after Courteney split from her current boyfriend Johnny McDaid.

A source told gossip blogger Perez Hilton at the time: “It’s no surprise that Matthew was one of the first people Courteney called after Johnny left her.

An unscripted reunion is reportedly in the works, which will see all of the six stars of the sitcom come together for a one off reunion special.

The show would air on HBO Max, a new subscription service which is set to air all Friends episodes after it transfers from rival service Netflix.

The report also noted that nothing yet is set in stone, and will all depend on the schedules of each of the actors.

The report stated: “When and if deals are completed, the challenge then becomes sorting out everyone’s schedules.

“Of course, the talks could fizzle and the whole concept could fall apart.”

Jennifer had previously said she wouldn’t want to do a Friends reboot, but went on to say on The Ellen Show that a potential reunion would depend on everyone’s hectic work schedules.

She told Ellen DeGeneres: “We would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is. So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.”

Friends first aired from 1994 and 2004 and remains one of television’s most popular sitcoms.
