Did Meghan or Kate's christening outfits cost more? Duchesses spent thousands

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s christening for Archie took place in July. Today more pictures came to light of the big day when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex paid their respects to Prince Charles on his 71st birthday.

Bespoke designer gowns like this can often cost upwards of £10,000.

Other wool and silk dresses currently being sold by the brand are being sold for between £2,150 and £3,800.

In fact, Meghan’s whole look, except her earrings, was bespoke, meaning the public may never know the true cost of the look. However, it is bound to be worth far more regular products from the high-end brands the Duchess chose.

She wore a bespoke Stephen Jones hat, which us likely t have cost upwards of £800, the price the London based designer charges for “couture hats, hand-made with an aesthetic of innovation.”

She wore Dior bespoke pumps, likely to have cost upwards of £700.

One item the price is known for is Meghan’s stunning Cartier earrings.

These studs cost a whopping £12,000. This places the approximate cost of Meghan’s christening outfit at over £23,500.

Kate Middleton has now attended three christenings, one for each of her three children.

The most recent was Prince Louis’ christening on 10 July 2018.

Her earrings on the day were the Cavolfiore Pearl Studs from Cassandra Goad.

With a shop in Sloane Square, the jewellers website states: “Her jewellery is worn by Lord Mayors, countesses, princesses.”

The earrings are available to order from £4,360.

She wore a bespoke Alexander McQueen dress, likely to be upwards of £10,000, and her shoes were the Romy Jimmy Choo style in nude patent leather, which cost £475. Her hat was a headband style, a departure from her usual fascinator. A similar style, the Cassandra, costs £960 from the brand.

This puts the whole look at £15,795.

For Princess Charlotte’s christening in July 2015 Kate wore an Alexander McQueen coat dress.

She again wore a Jane Taylor hat, a fascinator style with white flowers. A similar style from the brand would cost around £798.

Kate’s shoes appeared to be nude patent Russell & Bromley shoes, around £245.

It’s Kate’s jewellery who totalled up the cost of this look. She wore the Empress white gold and diamond pendant from Mappin and Webb, £2,000. She wore the matching Empress earrings, £3,750. This makes this outfit worth over £16,793.

And Kate stuck with her Alexander McQueen and Jane Taylor christening formula ever since her first one as a mother, in 2013, when little Prince George was born.

Kate wore an Alexander MCQueen dress adapted straight from the catwalk.

At the time of this christening, Kate’s hat was known to be the Georgie hat, £755, by Jane Taylor, described as a “sophisticated sinamay beret with delicate silk organza rose and classic veiling trim.”

She wore her Kiki McDonogh Classic Citrine pear drop earrings, £550, and the Park Avenue heels by Russell & Bromley, £165.The total for this look is upwards of £11,470.

This means Meghan Markle’s christening look was £6,707 more expensive that Kate Middleton’s most expensive christening look.
