Windows 10 November 2019 Update has arrived and here's how to get it

Just as rumours predicted, Microsoft released the Windows 10 November 2019 in the US last night, November 12. That means many fans in the UK are waking up to the new operating system this morning.

Microsoft has started to roll out the November 2019 Update now. As is typical with most new Windows 10 updates, delivery to users will be gradual, so you shouldn’t be too worried if you can’t download it yet.

With that said, it’s worth checking to see if your PC can obtain it by heading to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

The Windows 10 November 2019 Update is unabashedly a minor update by Microsoft standards. Instead of overhauling the esteemed PC software, the new upgrade is more focused on introducing refinements.

Don’t say Microsoft didn’t warn you. Earlier this year the American firm stated its new operating system would “include a scoped set of features for select performance improvements, enterprise features, and quality enhancements”.

With that said, the November 2019 does include a number of improvements that should get fans giddy with excitement.

First and foremost, the new operating system should improve the battery life of PCs powered by certain processors. This should be particularly embraced by any users that find themselves working on the move.

Additionally, the new version of Windows 10 also gives users more power over the notifications they receive. When you’re delivered an alert you can now tap on a settings button to permanently mute the programme in the future.

Microsoft Shell is also upgraded in the November 2019 Update. What is Microsoft Shell you ask? Well, it’s the graphical interface that makes Windows 10 look like, well… Windows 10.

Microsoft’s new operating system now allows users to add events to their Calendar without having to tediously open the app itself – its fly-out menu can now be leveraged for this, instead.

File Explorer is also being souped up with the November 2019 Update. Not only should the tool be more intuitive to use overall, but it’ll now let you sort through items that are stored locally and in the cloud.

Windows 10 users who aren’t fond of Microsoft’s chatty virtual assistant – Cortana – are also in for a treat. The November 2019 Update will allow you to leverage third-party assistants, like Amazon’s Alexa, on your device lock screen.

And of course, Microsoft’s new software will also quash a number bugs that have manifested themselves in its current May 2019 Update.
