Liverpool hero Mohamed Salah has been ruled out of Egypt’s international matches with Kenya and Comoros through injury.
He was pictured wearing a protective boot during training with his national team-mates.
Salah picked up a knock during Liverpool’s 3-1 win over rivals Manchester City on Sunday, and was forced to receive treatment on the pitch.
He was substituted in the 87th minute, and the club fear his injury may be worse than first thought.
Liverpool are reportedly concerned that Salah has picked up a repeat of his ankle injury that ruled him out of the Reds’ away match at Manchester United.
It was the only match that Salah has missed in the Premier League this season, and it’s also the only match that Jurgen Klopp’s side have failed to win.
On Sunday, Salah was spotted limping heavily as he left Anfield, after a challenge from Fernandinho.
Liverpool medical staff tried to convince Salah not to link up with his Egyptian team-mates this week, but the forward ended up making the trip.
The Egypt FA tweeted photos of Salah in his protective boot, as it announced that he wouldn’t be fit to take part in the country’s latest matches.
“Medical tests confirm Salah is not ready for Kenya and Comoros…,” it said.
But, Salah was later spotted talking to Egypt’s coaches during training, without his protective boot.
Despite his setback earlier this season, Salah has an impeccable injury record for Liverpool.
He’s only missed one match through injury during the two-and-a-half years that he’s spent at Anfield.
He didn’t miss a single match for the Reds during last season’s Premier League campaign, and was only used as a substitute on one occasion.
Salah did, however, miss Liverpool’s 4-0 second-leg win over Barcelona in the Champions League.
He was involved in a collision with Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka before the match at Anfield, and was ruled out with concussion.
