Deepika Padukone TRAILER: xXx star's hotly-anticipated trailer is just WEEKS away

Deepika Padukone’s latest role as acid attack survivor Malti in Chhapaak will be released in the New Year but fans will reportedly be treated to a trailer in the coming weeks. According to ETimes, a source close to the movie said fans could expect to see the official trailer in the first week of December. This means they will get a good look a month before Chhapaak’s release in January.

The film, which is directed by Meghan Gulzar, is based on the true story of Laxmi Agarwal, an Indian TV host and acid attack survivor who was attacked in 2005 at the age of 15.

In the years since, she has become a campaigner for Stop Sale Acid and advocates against acid attacks and for the rights of victims.

Through a petition to curb the sale of acid, which she took to the Indian Supreme Court, she successfully prompted the regulation of acid sales.

Back in March, Padukone shared the first image from the Chhapaak with her 40 million Instagram followers.

The still showed her as Malti as she called the character one that would “stay with her forever”.

The xXx star also revealed they were beginning shooting that day, announcing that the film would be released on January 10, 2020.

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar India, Padukone said Chhapaak was the “toughest” movie she had made to date.

“I’d say it’s the toughest movie I have ever done. Not because of the role, but because of the prosthetics,” she continued.

“I may not be able to do that every single time, but at least that is the intention.

Gulzar previously revealed she and writer Atika Chohan had been developing the script for Chhapaak since 2016, working with Agarwal in the process.

She said Padukone was her first choice for the lead role, telling Pinkvilla: “It was like this unsaid and unspoken wish which both Atika and I had. We have seen pictures of how Laxmi looked like before the attack and I found an uncanny similarity to Deepika.

“But you know, at the time, we were like, ‘We are letting our imaginations go wild. I don’t think Deepika would give this though a moment because it is just too radical.’ But it was a thought we silently nurtured in our hearts,” the filmmaker continued.

Gulzar admitted Padukone agreeing to do the film took her “by surprise”.

Elsewhere, fans are still waiting for news on another of Padukone’s upcoming movies: the follow up to 2017’s xXx Return of Xander Cage.

Having been confirmed to be reprising her role as Serena Unger opposite Vin Diesel in the action flick, the sequel has yet to get a release date.

Diesel announced he and Padukone were heading to a meeting about the next film together back in January, but the beginning of production has yet to be reported.
