Another hint that WhatsApp Dark Mode may be on its way very soon

WhatsApp users continue to wait patiently for news of a Dark Mode.

This popular feature has been rumoured for months but nothing has yet been officially announced by the Facebook-owned firm.

However, a new discovery by the team at WABetaInfo may reveal that this upgrade is coming sooner rather than later.

The publication has just posted an image of a Dark Theme wallpaper which it found hidden deep in the latest beta test of the software.

The photo clearly shows a striking black background which could feature when WhatsApp finally launches this mode.

There’s no more information on a release date available but WhatsApp BetaInfo is sating that, “Implementing the Dark Wallpaper might be one of the last things that WhatsApp had to implement. We are finally getting closer and this Dark Theme seems amazing!”

With many other apps and operating systems getting this dark mode it seems strange that WhatsApp hasn’t followed with its own upgrade.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens next but WhatsApp users have just received some other new extras on the messaging service.

These include the ability to secure your messages on Android via the fingerprint scanner.

When enabled, this useful new security feature will prompt WhatsApp users to place their fingerprint on the scanner when the app is loaded-up to prove it’s really them – despite the smartphone itself already being unlocked.

From last week, WhatsApp has introduced a new privacy setting and invite system to help you decide who exactly can add you to groups.

The new feature, which rolled-out in India last month, lets you decide whether anyone can drop you into a new group, or whether they have to already feature in your contacts. WhatsApp has also added the ability to create a blacklist of people who can never add you into a Group Chat, no matter whether they appear in your contacts app or not.

According to WhatsApp, the feature was introduced because users are increasingly turning to groups for important conversations. As a result, users asked the Facebook-owned messaging app for more control over their experience.

To enable it, go to Settings in your app, then tap Account > Privacy > Groups and select one of three options: Everyone, My Contacts, or My Contacts Except…
