You season 2 release date CONFIRMED: Thriller to return to Netflix sooner than you think

The second season of hit Netflix drama You has finally been given a release date as excitement levels for the new series continue to soar. While a number of new cast members were announced in the build-up, including comedian Chris D’Elia and Jenna Ortega, a Christmas premiere date had been widely tipped. Now, Netflix has confirmed when exactly the new episodes will be released.

When is You season 2 released?

You was first released in the USA on Lifetime before it arrived on Netflix.

Premiering on the network in September 2018, subscribers to Netflix had to wait three extra months before getting their first glimpse at the sociopathic Joe Goldberg (played by Penn Badgley).

Season two, however, will only be released on Netflix after the streaming giants picked the series up from the TV network this year.

Netflix broke the news of You’s return on Twitter in November 2019.

The first season arrived on the streaming platform during the Christmas period last year and season two is no different.

In a tweet confirming the release date, @NetflixUK said: “Time to buy some curtains because You returns on 26 December.”

The news clearly has fans excited for new episodes as the tweet racked up nearly 2,000 ‘likes’ within a few hours of being sent.

Who is in the cast of You season 2?

As mentioned earlier, Badgley will reprise the lead role of bookstore assistant Joe for another series.

The former Gossip Girl star appeared in every episode of the show’s debut run and will likely do the same in the new season.

Sadly, following her demise in the first season’s finale, Beck (Elizabeth Lail) won’t be returning.

Instead, Joe will face off with ex Candace (Childers) and a new love interest in the form of Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti).

Pedretti isn’t the only newcomer to the cast of You for the new series with several fresh faces set to appear.

Orange Is the New Black star Charlie Barnett takes on the role of Gabe in the new series alongside fellow newcomer Adwin Brown, who’ll play Calvin.

You fans may recognise Brown from his role on Paramount Network comedy Heathers.

Other actors to keep an eye out for in season two include James Scully, Marielle Scott and Robin Lord Taylor.

You season 2 premieres on Netflix on December 26.
