Tottenham player ratings vs Sheffield United: Son shines again but Dier exposed by Blades

Tottenham lost yet more ground in the Premier League after drawing 1-1 with Sheffield United at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Son Heung-min put the home side ahead when the South Korean pounced on some sloppy defensive work from the Blades.

But Chris Wilder’s men, who were the better side for much of the match, had one effort controversially ruled out by VAR before George Baldock’s cross found the back of the net to earn a share of the spoils.

Express Sport have rated how the Tottenham players performed againt Sheffield United, but do you agree?

GK: Paul Gazzaniga – 6

Made a fantastic save from Oliver Norwood then demonstrated good handling to field further long-range efforts.

But was also left rooted by a couple of strikes and could only watch as Baldock’s delivery went past him.

RB: Serge Aurier – 5

Enjoyed plenty of space going forward and linked up well with Giovani Lo Celso, although his delivery was disappointing.

A different story in defence as the right-back was often left floundering after his opponents.

CB: Davinson Sanchez – 7

Given a really tough examination by Lys Mousset but held his own against the Blades frontman.

Also got through a heap of work covering his centre-back partner Dier with a number of important blocks and clearances.

CB Eric Dier – 4

Lucky to avoiding being dismissed for a second yellow card, having picked up a caution just 75 seconds into the match, and was caught out for the equaliser.

Looked all at sea after an impressive display in midweek, once again opening up the discussion about his best position.

LB: Ben Davies – 5

A quiet afternoon for the Welshman, who was tidy defensively but didn’t offer much going forward.

CM: Moussa Sissoko – 5

Wasted possession on too many occasions. A big step down from his performance in midweek.

CM: Tanguy Ndombele – 6

Tidy in the opening 45 minutes but was forced off at half-time due to a knock.

RAM: Giovani Lo Celso – 7

Started brightly, building on a fantastic display against Red Star Belgrade in midweek, and went close with a skidding effort inside 20 minutes.

Linked up well with Aurier but faded as the game went on.

CAM: Dele Alli – 6

Guilty of misplacing several passes in the opening stages but started to have an impact as the half went on, showing some lovely touches in a congested midfield.

Was sacrificed as Spurs tried to close out the game.

LAM: Son Heung-min – 8

Tottenham’s best player by some distance, with the South Korean bagging his fifth goal in his past five matches when he pounced on some sloppy defending.

Always ready to receive the ball and threatened with his direct running.

ST: Harry Kane – 6

Didn’t have a kick inside the first 13 minutes while the England captain then missed a great chance to open the scoring from just six yards out.

Worked hard as usual but little came off.
