Top Boy season 4 Netflix release date, cast, trailer, plot: When is the new series out?

Top Boy premiered on Netflix worldwide on Friday, September 13. The series first aired on Channel 4 for two seasons but was sadly cancelled in 2013. Thankfully, Canadian rapper Drake was a huge Top Boy fan and partnered with Netflix two years ago to revive the show – and fans are hoping he will bring the crime drama back for another series.

When is Top Boy season 4 out?

Top Boy season four will hopefully arrive on screens in late 2021 at the earliest.

Netflix has not yet confirmed the return of the crime drama but Top Boy star Ashley Walters, who played Dushane, revealed work on a fourth series has begun.

Speaking to The Metro, Walters said: “Fingers crossed, we haven’t had the actual green light yet but it’s looking promising.

“In preparation for that, we’ve already been working out storylines and writing so it’s looking good.

“Obviously I won’t give anything away but it’s looking dope and we’re all looking forward to going again with the show.”

He warned a fourth season may not arrive as early as fans are hoping but stressed they will not have to wait six years like last time.

Walters said: “‘It had a huge impact and I’m quite sad we didn’t film two seasons at once because if we do go again, these people are going to have to wait quite a while again which is going to be difficult.”

News of Top Boy season three was announced in November 2017 and arrived almost two years later on September 2019.

So fans can expect to wait two years at least for season four to arrive.

Who will star in Top Boy season 4?

Hopefully, all of the main cast of Top Boy will return for the fourth series.

This would mean Ashley Walters would reprise his role as Dushane, Kane Robinson as Sully, and Micheal Ward as Jamie.

Also likely to return is Ashley Thomas as Jermaine, Simbi Ajikawo as Shelley, Jasmine Jobson as Jaq, Lisa Dwan as Lizzie and Keiyon Cook as Ats, Josef Altin as Lee and Isla Jackson Ritchie as Sarah.

Whether Shone Romulus will reprise his role as Dris is not clear as Sully (played by Kane Robinson) may have shot him dead towards the end of season three.

Although Sully was pointing the gun at Dris, when the shot was fired, the camera had panned up to the London skyline, with the two characters off-screen.

Therefore, it is actually unknown whether Sully fired the gun in the air, to the ground, or at Dris.

Sadly, Ricky Smarts is unlikely to return as Jason in the fourth season as he was killed in a house fire midway through the third season.

If he does feature in the new series, it will be in the form of flashbacks.

David Omoregie who played Modie is also unlikely to return after his character was killed by police in season three.

Top Boy fans have been wondering if rapper Drake, who was instrumental in bringing Top Boy back to life, will take on an acting role in the new series.

Walters told The Metro: “I wouldn’t be against it, I think he can act and people would be surprised.

“But I think he’s so powerful as Drake, it would be a difficult task for viewers to see him as anything else. That would be down to really good writing and acting.”

What will happen in Top Boy season 4?

Top Boy season four ended with huge twist fans did not see coming.

The two drug users on the estate, Sarah (Isla Jackson-Ritchie) and Lee (Josef Altin) turned out to be undercover officers investigating Dushane and his drug network.

The episode came to an end with a female investigator saying: “This guy shouldn’t be on our streets. He should be inside for the rest of his life.”

Top Boy season four will explore their undercover operation as Dushane continues to operate his drug empire after Lizzie (Lisa Dawn) agreed to be his supplier.

In the fourth season, fans will hopefully find out whether Jamie (Micheal Ward) will agree to work with Dushane.

Dushane had hacked into Jamie’s CCTV and the footage proved the green bag pack that got him in jail did not belong to Jamie, but belonged to Ats (Keiyon Cook).

Viewers were also left wondering what this would mean for Ats, who sadly got roped into the drug world trying to fight his family’s deportation.

If Jamie does get out of prison, the fourth series will likely follow Jamie and Dushane as they work together.

Dushane may be missing his former partner Sully, who at the end of season three walked away from Summerhouse.

In his final moments of season three, Sully was seen waiting outside his daughter’s school as he watched his ex-girlfriend collect their daughter.

Sully broke down in tears after seeing them both, so if season two is given the green light, perhaps it will follow Sully as he tries to turn his life around.
