Marriage Story release date, plot, trailer, cast – everything you need to know

Marriage Story is the latest movie from screenwriter and director Noah Baumbach, starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson. The movie unites Marvel and Star Wars as it follows these two franchise stars trying to navigate a difficult divorce. Reportedly based on some of Baumbach’s own experiences, here is everything we know about Marriage Story.

When is Marriage Story out in cinemas?

Marriage Story is released in UK cinemas on November 15 for a limited release.

As the movie has been made by Netflix, the majority of viewers will likely watch the movie on their home devices, with the movie getting its Netflix release on December 6.

The movie has already premiered in the UK at the London Film Festival on October 6, and has played the festival circuit since the Venice Film Festival in August.

Marriage Story is already out on the big screen in the USA, and will only be available to watch in around 25 screens across the country.

What is the plot of Marriage Story?

According to Netflix, the synopsis reads: “Marriage Story is Academy Award nominated filmmaker Noah Baumbach’s incisive and compassionate look at a marriage breaking up and a family staying together.”

There is very little giving the story away here and, according to the trailer, the couple in question are going through divorce proceedings while also trying to keep their son happy and comfortable.

The pair are also splitting up across the country from one another, making the story even more heartbreaking, and it has been reported the film is partly autobiographical as it features a stage director and an actress.

Who is in the cast of Marriage Story?

Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver play the divorcing couple, Nicole and Charlie Barber.

Laura Dern plays Nora Fanshaw, who is likely on the side of Nicole judging by the trailer, while Alan Alda plays Bert Spitz, who seems to be a lawyer of some kind for Charlie.

Ray Liotta plays Jay, and Julie Hagerty plays Sandra, Nicole’s mother.

Other actors performing in the movie include Marriett Wever, Mark O’Brien, Matthew shear, Booke Bloom, Mickey Sumner, Martha Kelly and Wallace Shawn.

Finally Azhy Robertson is the young Henry Barber, Nicole and Charlie’s son.

Is there a trailer for Marriage Story?

There are multiple trailers for Marriage Story, one of which is available at Express.co.uk .

In one of the trailers, the couple first describe what they love about each other, before the audience see the action of their divorce play out.

Charlie says: “What I love about Nicole. She is a mother who plays – really plays.

Nicole then says: “What I love about Charlie. He loves being a dad. He loves all the things you’re supposed to hate like getting up at night.

Charlie adds: “She knows when to push me, and when to leave me alone.”

Nicole adds: “He never lets people keep him from what he wants to do.”

Charlie then says: “It’s not easy for her to close a cabinet.”

Nicole replies: “He’s incredibly neat.”

As Charlie says, “she’s brave,” Nicole responds, “he’s brilliant,” before the pair call one another “competitive” in unison.

While there is a lot of love attached to this film, there is also clearly a great deal of difficulty for the pair, made clear as the trailer unfolds.
