The former Givenchy creative director, who is now the chief creative officer for British brand Burberry, picked up the award for his contribution to the fashion industry.
Also honoured at the New York event was actor Eddie Murphy, 58, who became the recipient of the Entertainment Innovator award.
Hip-hop artist and fashion designer Tyler, The Creator received the Music Innovator accolade on the night.
Fellow music producer and performer Kayne recently collaborated with the 28-year-old on his new album.
