Property for sale: Two storey maisonette on sale for a quarter of UK average house price

A two-bedroom maisonette with an open plan lounge and kitchen has been listed on, property website, Zoopla for a shockingly cheap price.

Situated on Old Chester Road, Birkenhead, the listing is posted at just £45,000 – but why?

“The property offers two bedrooms, a bathroom, an open-plan lounge, an excellent sized kitchen and diner with security parking to the rear of the building.

“The property also benefits from being within walking distance to the train station and easy driving distance to the Birkenhead tunnel

The lounge in the property is described as having a “Juliet” style balcony to the front and side as well as chic laminate flooring.

The kitchen and dining area on the listing is described as: “Fitted kitchen comprising wall and base units with complementary work surfaces and tiling, stainless steel inset sink unit, electric oven and gas hob with cooker hood above.

DON’T MISS

“Gas central heating boiler, laminate flooring, radiator and utility/ larder cupboard” is available in the property.

So, why is this property so cheap?

On closer inspection of the advert, it appeared that when the property was first listed it was for £50,000, which is still a considerably discounted rate.

However, after being on the market for nine months it was reduced by another £5,000 in August to £45,000.

Maybe with this reduction, the house will finally find it’s owner.

Express.co.uk has reached out to Jones & Chapman, Prenton for further comment.

It boasts “a modern kitchen/diner, modern bathroom and off-road parking with a detached garage.”

The advert reveals the reason the home has been listed for such a low price is that only 25 percent ownership of the property is up for sale, in a shared ownership scheme.

What is shared ownership? Shared ownership is when buyers only purchase a share in a property.

It is considered to be a good scheme for first-time buyers or those who have less capital upfront.
