Andre Gomes sends message to fans after horror Everton injury against Tottenham

Andre Gomes has sent a message to fans after his horror ankle break in Everton’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Sunday.

Gomes fell in a heap after Heung-Min Son’s challenge on the Portuguese during the Premier League clash at the weekend.

He was taken straight to hospital before undergoing surgery on Monday, where, Eveton announced, it was a success.

Son, who could barely be consoled after he saw the extent of Gomes’ injury, was sent off for the tackle, before Cenk Tosun went on to equalise in the 90th minute.

“Hi everyone, as you know everything went well,” Gomes said in a video posted to Twitter

“I’m at home with my family and I’d like to thank you for the support, messages and positive energy, thank you.”

Toffees boss Marco Silva spoke of the character he was sure Gomes would show in coming back from such a devastating injury.

“Andre, apart from his qualities as a football player, will become stronger,” he said.

“I know how Andre is as a professional. I am 100 per cent sure he will work really hard to become stronger. I don’t have doubts about that.

“And I know all the support we will give to him. First of all, me and my staff, and all our staff in the Ccub, and his teammates.

“I know Andre is always ready to help his teammates, every time he can see something in his teammates, he is the first to go behind the scenes, to go around to try to speak with them.

“And I know now it will be the opposite situation.”

Gomes is likely to miss the rest of the season, though an update on timescale has yet to be given by Everton or Silva.

Silva added: “His teammates will understand the situation with Andre and the support they give him will be one of the keys.

“And the other thing comes from Andre.

“When you are a good professional and really focussed in your job, you have to challenge this type of situation, these types of moments.”
