Liverpool player ratings vs Genk: Keita and Wijnaldum not on top form but Van Dijk shines

Liverpool had goals from Georgio Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to thank as they dispatched Genk at Anfield.

The Reds midfielders struck in the 14 and 53rd minutes – either side of Mbwana Samatta’s equaliser for their Belgian visitors.

Wijnaldum was not at his best despite scoring, while Virgil van Dijk was in impressive form for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Express Sport have rated how the Liverpool players performed during their clash with Genk, but do you agree?

Liverpool player ratings vs Genk – Champions League

GK: Alisson – 5

Largely redundant for much of the night, made one grab from a cross first half. Not at fault for goal.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6

Troubled visitors with pace but lacked end product. Superb interception to rob Samatta.

CB: Joe Gomez – 6

Solid enough display defensively and generally marshalled the useful Samatta well.

CB: Virgil van Dijk – 8

Rolls-Royce performance, rarely out of second gear. Some decent long-range distribution and great game reading.

LB: James Milner – 5

Acres of space on left flank, provided assist for the opener. Faded from the game as the night wore on.

CM: Fabinho – 7

Midfield anchor rarely dragged out of position for most of night, but lost Samatta at corner for equaliser.

CM: Naby Keita – 5

Repeatedly dropped deep first half and heavily involved but frustratingly slow in possession at times.

CM: Georginio Wijnaldum – 5

On hand to convert opener after blunder from Sebastien Dewaest. Otherwise a mediocre night for the midfielder.

RW: Mohamed Salah – 6

Buzzing presence from right side first half and centrally second, great effort level. Neat assist for second but shooting boots missing despite several chances.

LW: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6

Shot blocked on half hour, some surging runs, great turn and shot for second goal.

ST: Divock Origi – 6

Did okay in solo role first half and moved right second period. Some neat flicks to keep moves going at pace.
