Fantastic Beasts 3: Harry Potter spin-off confirmed as one character gets big upgrade

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 3 will see Eddie Redmayne return as Newt Scamander as his adventures take him to a new continent. According to Deadline, the third in the prequel series to the Harry Potter stories will continue to explore the magical world outside of the UK, with the characters heading to Rio de Janeiro. Following the events of the first film, set in New York, and The Crimes of Grindelwald, where the action took place in Paris, Newt will this time be headed to Brazil.

Meanwhile, shooting dates are said to have been confirmed for early next year.

While production is reportedly due to start in spring, the publication claims to have unearthed some juicier details about the plot of Fantastic Beasts 3 too.

Professor Eulalie ‘Lally’ Hicks (played by Jessica Williams) is rumoured to be getting a much bigger role in the upcoming sequel.

Lally actress Williams has appeared in the likes of Booksmart and Corporate Animals and is also known as a comedian.

JK Rowling previously hinted at a meatier role for Williams after her brief appearance in The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Last year, she tweeted her 14 million followers saying: “You only see a HINT of Lally in Fantastic Beasts 2. Her true glory is revealed in FB3.”

As well as Redmayne returning, Johnny Depp will also be reprising his role as Gellert Grindelwald, while Ezra Miller will be back as Credence Barebone.

Newt is set to get five solo movies in total, with Warner Bros. already confirming remaining two after the upcoming third in the series.

In the first film, fans learned about the villainous Grindelwald when Newt exposed him.

Then, in The Crimes of Grindelwald, they were introduced to a young Dumbledore and his complex relationship with Grindelwald which included a magical pact which prevented either of them from ever harming the other.

Chances are, this story will be continued in Fantastic Beasts 3 as Dumbledore seeks to break the pact and destroy the bad guy.

While Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them netted Warner Bros a cool $812 million, sales for The Crimes of Grindelwald were a little more disappointing.

The second film made just $653 million and has a score of 37 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

In comparison, the final movie in the original Harry Potter series, The Deathly Hallows Part 2, brought in $1.3 billion back in 2011.

Fantastic Beasts 3 will be released in UK cinemas November 12 2021.
