Carol Vorderman addresses very awkward blunder with veteran at Pride of Britain Awards

Carol Vorderman, 58, shared how she made a major mistake when addressing a group of veterans at a previous Pride of Britain Awards after being given unclear instructions. She told OK! magazine how she was left confused when handed a piece of paper that simply read: “Talk to Charles”.

She told the magazine: “When we had the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, about 40 veterans arrived on stage and all I got handed was a scrap of paper saying, ‘Talk to Charles’.

“So I found who I thought was Charles and said into the microphone: ‘I understand you were shot down twice in the war.’

“To which he replied: ‘Good God, no! Once – and that was quite enough!’ I’d got the wrong Charles!” she laughed.

Carol, who has been presenting the heartwarming awards show for 20 years, also revealed her favourite and least favourite outfits from over the years.

Carol responded by quipping: “It’s all about him obviously!”

Susanna bought the topic back to the “winners of the night” and said: “Sometimes it’s not until you watch it on the television and it all kind of comes over you.

“I find it even more emotional actually.”

Carol agreed that she often gets especially emotional watching the show back on television.
