Chris Evans: ‘Let’s not go there’ Virgin Radio host in awkward marriage gaffe live on-air

Chris Evans, 53, had a bit of a mind blank on Thursday morning’s Virgin Radio show when he warned his interviewee, Jeff Goldblum, 67, “let’s not go there” after he asked how long he had been married.

The Hollywood actor and musician has starred in some of the highest-grossing films of his era, including Jurassic Park and Independence Day, as well as their respective sequels.

He featured on the breakfast show to talk about his new jazz album, I Shouldn’t Be Telling You This that was released last Friday.

After Jeff was introduced, Chris asked him about his plans for Halloween, but the actor interjected and wished the radio host a happy anniversary, misinterpreting a listener’s call out.

“Happy anniversary!” He said: “Hey that’s fantastic, you and Beverly? Jeez!” Jeff exclaimed excitedly.

Chris sounded a little confused and interrupted: “No it’s not me a Beverly, it’s a listener and Beverly.” He said, referring to the marriage anniversary call out he had made earlier in the show.

“Wait a minute, oh! I thought it was your anniversary,” the musician quipped after realising his mistake.

Listeners could hear Chris laughing as he admitted: “No, if it is I’m in real trouble Jeff!”

Quick to rectify his mistake, Jeff asked how long the radio star had been married for: “You’ve been married for many years now?”

“12 or 30, let’s not go there Jeff!” Chris joked: “I’m going to get into more trouble!”

After the awkward blunder, he finally confessed: “12 years. 12 years I’m happily married, it’s going alright.”

Jeff congratulated him and swiftly moved on to answer Chris’ first question about Halloween: “So Halloween, I like Halloween,” he giggled as Chris tried to stifle his laughter.

Chris and his golf-pro wife, Natasha, met in 2005 when they became partners in Sky One’s All-Star Cup celebrity tournament.

The pair married two years later and share four children together, Noah and Eli and then welcomed twins, Walt and Boo late last year.

Chris and Natasha keep their family life relatively private, although Chris often talks about them on his radio show.

Earlier last week he made a huge family blunder on air after revealing details of his sister-in-law’s pregnancy, which was later revealed a private family affair that only select people knew about.

The radio star is currently broadcasting from Portugal where he is on holiday with his immediate and extended family.

“I made a bit of a family faux pas,” the radio DJ said on Tuesday: “I have to do a full-on family apology.”

“Following yesterday’s show, and trying to remember who I’m on holiday with, I said something I really, really shouldn’t!” Chris cringed.

“Yesterday I said, ‘oh and Liv is pregnant again!’” He recalled as the studio went silent: “Which she is. But not many people knew about it. So, for that I apologise unreservedly,” he said, before moving on.

The Chris Evans Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6:30am on Virgin Radio.
