Steph McGovern: 'No one's asked you love' BBC Breakfast star takes swipe at Theresa May

Steph McGovern, 37, seemed less than impressed by Theresa May’s, 63, declaration that she will be keeping silent about the current Brexit situation. The BBC Breakfast star, who is expecting her first baby with her girlfriend, aimed a cheeky jibe at the former Prime Minister while hosting a recent episode of Have I Got News for You.

The journalist got onto the subject while discussing Boris Johnson’s move to ask the European Union for a Brexit extension.

Steph explained to the panel: “Boris said he wouldn’t send a letter to the EU asking for an extension and then of course he sent three of them. Why?”

She added: “One letter asked for an extension, the other letter said, ‘I didn’t mean what I said in the first letter’ and the third letter was to say, ‘I’ve sent you two letters’.”

Later in the programme, Steph went on to discuss Theresa May’s response to the issues surrounding Brexit.

She quipped: “This is the news that October 31st 2019 will go down in history as Halloween.”

The audience burst into laughter at the joke as the TV personality continued: “According to The Times this week, Theresa May has refused to comment on Brexit.”

Steph then dismissed the MP’s statement as she mischievously remarked: “I’m not sure anyone’s asking you love.”

Elsewhere, the pregnant presenter responded to a “harsh” comment after fans showed interest in her choice of clothing from the show.

The presenter later followed up her post jokingly telling fans she didn’t “expect to become a part-time jumper dealer” as she insisted many fans had asked her for further details.

In response to her statement, a Twitter user wrote: “Nice to know that if the TV work turns to s**t you’ve got something to fall back on.”

However, another fan of Steph’s claimed the latter comment was “harsh”.

They replied: “That’s a bit harsh mind, Richard. Steph’s great and she’s a Northerner to boot!”
