Katya Jones: ‘Want to do my own thing’ Strictly pro quits social media after tough time

Katya Jones has said she has left social media as “it’s not real” following a difficult time away from the Strictly Come Dancing 2019 dancefloor. It comes after her partner Mike Bushell, 53, received a death threat and she was reportedly “s**t-shamed” for kissing her former partner Seann Walsh last year.

The professional dancer admitted she just wants to do her “own thing” in a new interview with The Sun.

The beauty, who recently split from her husband and co-star Neil Jones, commented: “I’m off social media; it’s not real.

“For me, it’s real what we’re doing with our dancing and performance.”

Katya added: “There’s no need for negatives. I just want to do my own thing.”

The BBC favourite last posted in view of her 77,000 Twitter followers back on October 14, when she responded to what appeared to be a troll.

“How do any of these three sentences connect?” she replied to a now-deleted tweet, who responded to a post of her and Mike celebrating making it through to week five.

She also hit back at another message, writing: “Please can you name each time acted acting ‘unprofessionally lately?’”(sic)

Katya also hasn’t uploaded to Instagram in view of her 157,000 fans since October 24, however has been sharing things posts through her stories.

“After that, I had so much support over the week, so many nice messages, so that far outweighs the nasty ones,” he said.

“BBC Breakfast, Strictly, everyone said, ‘Do you want to talk about it, are you worried about it?’ And I said no, thanks for the offer but all is fine, rise above it, we’ll just carry on.”

The star went on: “But the BBC is brilliant, they’re very supportive with anything like that, they’re very experienced in dealing with that but, no, honestly we’re fine.”

The newlywed said he wanted to report the person who sent the “vile, abusive” message, “but then they deleted the tweet”.

He added: “I’ve no problem at all with people having opinions about who their favourite couples are, and the plan is always to do our best, and then it’s up to the judges, up to the public and you just do your best in the dance-off and accept the decision.

“That’s what Catherine and Johannes did, and we’ve had lovely messages from them, but some people… it’s an entertainment show at the end of the day.”

His wife Emily had previously defended him, saying that he “danced well and deserves his spot on the show” as she told of her shock about the “level of abuse” he received.
