Atypical season 4 Netflix release date: Will there be another series?

Atypical season three premiered on Netflix on Friday, November 1 after more than a year of waiting. Fans have been binge-watching the latest series over the weekend and have been wondering if the award-winning dramedy will return for another series. Express.co.uk has all the details you need to know about the future of Atypical.

Will there be another series of Atypical?

Netflix has not made any announcement about the future of Atypical but there are high hopes that the dramedy series will return for a fourth season.

The third series only dropped on Netflix on Friday, November 1 so it is still early days for news of a renewal to be announced.

Netflix usually announces show renewals and cancellations six months after the series has been released on the streaming platform, so Atypical fans can expect to hear news in early 2020.

However, season three of Atypical was confirmed one month after season two dropped on Netflix, so news of season four may come as soon as December 2019.

Netflix does not release its ratings with the public, so it is difficult to know if the show is as popular as it once was.

Nevertheless, the future of Ayptical is looking positive, with the third series achieving high praise from fans on Twitter and critics.

One Atypical fan on Twitter wrote: “Even though #Atypicalseason3 only came out today, I just finished all episodes and I’m obsessed. The ending was amazing. I really hope that there will be a season 4 #Atypical.”

Another fan tweeted: “I’m legit gonna riot if atypical doesn’t get renewed cause season 3 was the best season yet AND the fandom quadrupled in size between s2 and 3 so there’s no reason we shouldn’t get that 4th one.”

A third fan tweeted: “Season 3 of Atypical crushed it again. #Netflix.”

Atypical season three ended with its doors wide open for the story of Sam Gardner (played by Kier Gilchrist) and his family to continue.

In the final episode, Sam decided to move out of his family home, something that will definitely not go down well his mother Elsa (Jennifer Jason Leigh).

Things were also about to change for Sam’s sister Casey (Brigette Lundy-Paine) who decided to face the truth about her sexuality in season two.

In the season finale, Casey decided she was going to train to try and win apace on the Yale University track team.

However, her coach believed her personal life, her relationship with Izzie (Fivel Stewart) in particular, was getting in the way of her chances.

Season four would likely explore Sam as he moves away for college and Casey’s new romantic relationship with Izzie.

Speaking to TV Guide, actress Fivel Stewart who plays Izzie spoke about the future of Casey and Izzie.

She said: “I think in this season there [were] a lot of lessons to be learned for Izzie, and so I feel like if there were a season four she would definitely be more into it and more into showing everyone.

“I feel like in reality there would still be that struggle, just because it’s so new and everything that’s new or uncomfortable makes you feel like a little unsteady about it. But no, I feel like she’d be secure. I feel like she’s secure with her feelings about Casey.”
