Pokemon Sword and Shield release date update: Disappointing news for Switch fans

Pokemon fans have been dealt a blow ahead of the Sword and Shield release date on Nintendo Switch.

With the November 15 launch just a couple of weeks away, Sword and Shield developer Game Freak has revealed more about the upcoming release.

Director Shigeru Ohmori and producer Junichi Masuda have been talking about the size of the game and the amount of content.

Unfortunately, however, despite being developed from the ground up for Nintendo’s most powerful console, Pokemon Sword and Shield won’t be any bigger than past entries.

“In terms of the volume or the amount of content in the main adventure, [Sword / Shield is] comparable to other Pokemon generations that we’ve played,” director Shigeru Ohmori told Game Informer.

“I think there’s a lot of interesting activities that, for example, completing the Pokedex or really going out into the Wild Area and engaging with those mechanics, that’ll add a lot of replay value for players who are looking to get really hardcore into that.”

The views were echoed by producer Junichi Masuda, who added: “I feel like a lot of players these days will typically burn through content and try to go to the ending as fast as they can.”

Speaking of the size of the game, the Pokemon Sword and Shield file size has been revealed.

And the good news is that Pokemon Sword and Shield won’t max out your Switch console’s memory, because each individual game will only take up 9.5GB of space on the internal memory.

It’s a far cry from some of the console’s third-party efforts, which sometimes max out the Nintendo Switch’s memory.

The games are also available to pre-load for digital pre-order customers, which means you can get stuck into the action as soon as the game goes live.

Pokemon Sword and Shield has a November 15 release date, exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

The game contains lots of new features and a new generation of Pokemon, not to mention a brand new location loosely based on the United Kingdom.

One of the headline new features is the aforementioned Dynamaxing, which transforms Pocket Monsters into huge beasts with more powerful special moves.

The Nintendo Switch game will also have more Trainer customisation options, including the ability to change hairstyles and wear makeup.

Players will also be able to set up camps when exploring the Galar region, and can even cook up a selection of curry dishes.
