Jumanji: The Next Level TRAILER theory: Spencer’s new avatar is Nick Jonas' Jefferson

The final trailer for Jumanji: The Next Level has landed, teasing the mysterious new plot of the latest sequel. Spencer, who inhabited The Rock’s Smoulder Bravestone avatar in the previous outing, has gone ahead of the others into the game this time. However, with Danny DeVito’s Eddie, Spencer’s grandpa, now using Dwayne Johnson’s video game character, just which has his grandson taken? Well, by the looks of things, this time he’s in Nick Jonas’ Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough.

Fans will remember that in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, this character was used by Colin Hanks’ Alex, who had been trapped inside the video game since his teenage years.

And in the film’s opening, Jefferson was one of five playable characters aside from the main four, so surely this is the one Spencer chose in The Next Level?

This would mean that Nick Jonas’ appearance in the trailer is Spencer being reunited with the others.

After all, why would he be with the horse that Bethany is inhabiting?

Of course, if not Jefferson there are a couple of stars with undisclosed roles that Spencer could be playing as.

These include both Dania Ramirez and Awkwafina.

Interestingly, the latter appears in the trailer surrounded by treasure in a snowy, mountainous region of Jumanji.

The official synopsis for the new film reads: “In Jumanji: The Next Level, the gang is back but the game has changed.

“As they return to Jumanji to rescue one of their own, they discover that nothing is as they expect.

“The players will have to brave parts unknown and unexplored, from the arid deserts to the snowy mountains, in order to escape the world’s most dangerous game.”

Despite Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’s near $1 billion success, it wasn’t without its critics. And last year The Rock lashed out at one of them on social media.

The Twitter user wrote to The Rock: “I went to see the new Jumanji. F*** THE NEW JUMANJI. Here’s a spoiler.

“There is no way a character in a video game would lose a life, then be respawned still in possession of the item required to win.

“That’s some bulls***. What say you @TheRock? Otherwise, it was quite good.”

However, Johnson replied with quite the smackdown, saying: “Actually my friend, in the JUMANJI Lore Handbook, it clearly states in article 72 of section 7, that “any character who loses a life, shall return to their original state with any item they possessed at the time of their demise”. So kindly go f*** yourself James.”

Jumanji: The Next Level is released in UK cinemas on December 11, 2019, with previews on December 7 and 8.
