Friends Episodes Are Coming To Theaters For Thanksgiving

Even though every episode of Friends has been available for streaming on Netflix for years – and the series will soon be headed to HBO Max – there continues to be a push for the beloved 90s sitcom to hit the big screen. And, Fathom Events has just announced that eight Thanksgiving-themed episodes will hit the theaters just in time for Turkey Day.

According to E! News, the episodes were digitally restored and will be shown in 4K, as opposed to the original 35mm footage from when they shot the series, and tickets for the limited run will go on sale Friday, November 1st.

“Friendsgiving will reunite fans with their longtime BFFs, Ross, Rachel, Joey, Monica, Chandler and Phoebe, to relive some of their funniest moments,” Fathom Events said in their press release. “Fans will watch as Monica puts a turkey on her head, Rachel makes a curious trifle cake, Ross reveals an old secret, Chandler declares his love for Monica, Joey tries to devour an entire turkey, and Phoebe exposes something curious about Chandler’s canine allergy.”

This is the second time in a matter of weeks that Friends episodes will be in theaters. In September, twelve episodes ran over three days to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series’ 1994 NBC premiere.

Over 230,000 people went to the theater to enjoy the series on the big screen, and the short run brought in nearly $3 million at the box office. Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events, says that since fans showed up in full force for the initial Friends screening, it’s clear that there is a demand for more.

Even though Friends never went away thanks to syndication, the classic sitcom has enjoyed a renaissance in the past few years because of Netflix, and fans have been clamoring for a reboot.

Recently, Jennifer Aniston admitted on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she and her co-stars – Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow – have been “working on something,” but she wouldn’t go into details about what that “something” was.

Aniston explained that everyone in the original cast would love to work together again, but they haven’t figured out yet what the project will be. She did give a hard “no” on the idea of a Friends reboot, but she wasn’t sure about a movie. Ultimately, Aniston said she didn’t want to lead people on.

The 50-year-old actress also delighted fans with her first Instagram post that featured a photo of all six stars together for the first time in years.
