Wladimir Klitschko plots boxing comeback with Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury fight tease

Wladimir Klitschko is plotting a comeback to boxing in order to become world heavyweight champion once again.

Klitschko lost his world heavyweight titles against Tyson Fury back in 2015, before losing his final fight against Anthony Joshua in 2017.

But he told Business Insider that he was plotting a route back to boxing in order to skip past Joshua and Fury in the queue to become world champion.

Joshua challenges Andy Ruiz Jr for the WBA, WBO and IBF belts on December 7, and Fury is expected to rematch Deontay Wilder early next year for the WBC strap.

But Klitschko hinted he was only planning to come back to the sport in order to break George Foreman’s record of being the oldest heavyweight world champion [45 years-old].

“I still got it,” the 43-year-old claimed. “Can I fight? Yes. Right now I keep my options open. There is going to be no comeback to come back and to break a jaw. It’s a comeback to break a record.

“Is it appealing? I would say yeah, it’s pretty cool.

“George Foreman did it. He was 45 I believe when he became champion, and it’s a pretty cool statement.”

Fury is ditching the boxing world tonight as he takes on Braun Strowman at the WWE Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia.

It is the ‘Gypsy King’s first foray into the WWE world, having previously conquered the heavyweight division of boxing by beating Klitschko.

After Fury fights Strowman, he is expected to return to boxing for a rematch with WBC champion Wilder.

Fans are hoping to see him defeat the ‘Bronze Bomber’ early next year and face off against Joshua, should both win their next fights.

The two have been rivals for some time now, with fans split on who they believe will win. But Klitschko has no doubt in his mind about the better fighter.

“Hands down Joshua,” he said last year when asked to predict a winner between the two British boxers.

“He is getting to be the complete fighter, technically, size-wise, weight-wise, power-wise. And he is a good learner.

“The other guy [Fury], like a fart in the wind it is there and it is gone.

“In the history of boxing there are a lot of examples of this kind of guy. They can be successful for a time but are not disciplined enough to continue to be successful.”
