Polling guru exposes gift to Boris from Remainers and intense Tory-Brexit Party 'battle'

Political scientist and polling expert Sir John Curtice insisted that there were two crucial battles going on regarding Brexit and the upcoming general election. While on BBC Breakfast Sir John explained that Remain vote has been split between the Labour Party and Liberal Democrats and this split may be crucial to the Tories’ victory. He added that this split is more so than that between Leavers for the Brexit Party and Conservative Party.

The polling expert explained that the Tories had had some early success against the Brexit Party but this battle will continue to wage as Boris Johnson failed to take the UK out of the EU on time.

Sir John said: “If you take the average of those polls that have been conducted since Boris Johnson negotiated and agreed his deal with the European Union, we are looking at a 12 point Conservative lead.

“That puts the Conservative at around 36 points and Labour at around 24.

“What has been going on is the Conservative Party has gradually squeezed the Brexit Party vote amongst leave voters.

“That has meant that around 55 percent of Leave voters say they would vote for the Conservative Party.

“What we are all now looking out for is whether or not the Conservative Party can sustain that squeeze and continue it further.

“Some of those gains from the Brexit Party was achieved on the back of Boris Johnson telling us that we were going to be leaving the European Union October 31 do or die.

“Well, we are not leaving the European Union tomorrow and the Brexit Party will criticise the Prime Minister for that failure.

“There is obviously another crucial battle on the other side of the Brexit argument, that is between Labour and the Liberal Democrats.

“The Liberal Democrat revival since the spring has occurred entirely amongst Remain voters.

“It means that the Remain vote is split between those two parties much more than is the Leave vote divided between the Tories and the Brexit Party.

“It is that Remain split that is absolutely crucial to Boris Johnson’s ability to win the election.”
