HECK FOOD: Bangers maestro invests in new frozen VEGAN range for Holland & Barrett

Available in 600 Holland & Barrett stores, the range forms part of the north Yorkshire company’s Veg with Edge offering, a category expected to account for 20 percent of Heck’s sales next year. The business, started by the Keeble family six years ago, is forecasting a £50million turnover in 2020. The latest funding came from growth in-house and is for new flash freezing equipment for its dedicated facility.

This will also boost its exports to Australia and potentially to Canada, the US and the Far East too where it also having talks.

“Retailers are taking a really entrepreneurial approach to vegan. We have had a terrific response although we are still very much David to the big imitation meat producers,” says co-founder Jamie Keeble.

Pork prices have risen rapidly recently worldwide in response to China’s African swine fever crisis which is expected to reduce production by 10 percent this year.

“Our eyes are always on the future and we are looking for ways to diversify especially as the threat of pork shortages continues,” adds Keeble.

“We have ramped up our new product development for meat too with Guy Porks, a pork and treacle sausage for Bonfire Night and chicken frankfurters. Sausage lovers are looking for something different and fun.”
