Fans debate Zlatan Ibrahimovic's next move as LA Galaxy ace confirms Spain return

Zlatan Ibrahimovic sent football fans into meltdown on Tuesday when he announced he was returning to Spain on Instagram.

The 38-year-old has spent the last two years in the MLS with LA Galaxy after a stellar career in which he played in six different countries, earning 11 league titles, 20 cup wins and nine Ballon d’Or nominations.

In the last two years, the Swede has proved his goal-scoring prowess once again in the US, netting 52 times in 56 appearances, leading to rumours of a return to Europe.

Former club Manchester United was touted as a potential destination for Ibrahimovic amid their struggles in the Premier League and Europa League, but the ex-Barcelona star has now confirmed that Spain will be his next stop.

In a short message on Instagram, Ibrahimovic said: “Hola España, guess what? I’m coming back.”

The announcement sent fans wild, with many taking to social media to suggest which club Sweden’s top scorer of all time might join.

Some supporters pointed towards a Camp Nou return, as one fan tweeted: “Back to Barcelona’s bench.”

While some fans were adamant the Swede would be heading to the capital. One fan put: “Atleti – him & Costa upfront,” while another wrote: “Zlatan to Real?? I would love it!”

One supporter tweeted: “I’d love to see Zlatan at Sevilla,” while another suggested their rivals: “Betis!!!!”

Fans even suggested other, less obvious destinations for Ibrahimovic, who hasn’t featured in La Liga since May 2010.

“Celta Vigo or suttin,” wrote one supporter, while another claimed: “Pretty sure it’s Getafe…”

One suggested the league leaders as they put: “Granada. 100%,” but another opted for a second-tier side: “Zlatan signs a 2 year deal with Real Oviedo.”

Other fans were not convinced Ibrahimovic was moving to La Liga and instead proposed other explanations for his return to Spain.

One wrote: “Nah…. It’s a Sky Sport show or something in Spain.”

Another agreed: “Would not be surprised if this Zlatan thing is a PR ploy for him to launch, say, QLED TVs to the Spanish market. I’d be very surprised if this is him signing for a club in LaLiga.”

“Zlatan saying he is going to Spain, only to then announce he is going to Spain on holiday or for a promotional appearance would be peak Zlatan,” theorised one fan.

In true Ibrahimovic style, a fourth supporter simply wrote: “Zlatan isn’t going to LaLiga, LaLiga is going to Zlatan.”
