Arsenal are likely to sack Unai Emery at the end of the season, according to reports.
The Spaniard has seen his position in north London come under scrutiny after the chastening 2-2 Premier League draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday, with the Gunners now fifth in the table.
Arsenal fans are beginning to turn on Emery, while it’s been claimed that the Spaniard is a divisive figure among the squad. Some want him to stay but others would be happy if he were to leave.
And the Telegraph say that Arsenal are currently likely to sack Emery at the end of the current campaign.
However, the Spaniard can save his job by steering the Gunners to fourth in the Premier League table.
Arsenal are determined to return to the Champions League this season.
And Emery was heavily backed during the summer as a result, with the likes of Nicolas Pepe, Dani Ceballos and Kieran Tierney all touching down.
Despite bolstering his squad, however, the Arsenal manager has been unable to coax the best from his squad.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s bright start to the campaign has faded, with the Gabon international scoring just once from his last five outings.
And Arsenal also had to contend with a strop from Gunners captain Granit Xhaka against Palace.
The Switzerland international was given the club’s captaincy by Emery following the departure of Laurent Koscielny at the end of the season.
But that decision has backfired, prompting more criticism to go Emery’s way.
The Arsenal boss is adamant he has what it takes to succeed at the Emirates and take the club forward.
But the poor recent results mean that the Spaniard may not get the time he feels he needs to turn things around.
Meanwhile, former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit believes that Emery must try to get Xhaka to refocus in the wake of the Palace debacle.
“If I were to talk to Xhaka, I would say: ‘You are doing the most exciting job in the world, and you have to make sacrifices,’” he said.
“You must understand that, when you play for a big club like Arsenal, and are captain on top of that, you must be an example on and off the pitch.
“Right now, you’re not. So lay down. Don’t answer any questions that might be a problem.
“Just shut your mouth, work, and try to get back the fans’ and players’ confidence.
“This is the toughest game you will have to play since becoming a player.’”
