Steph McGovern: ‘Baby before Brexit!’ Pregnant star in update after leaving BBC Breakfast

Former BBC Breakfast star Steph McGovern, 37, said she had often wondered if Brexit or her baby would come first.

But today, it appears as though her thoughts have been answered, as it was announced Brexit has been delayed by three months.

The original date for Britain to leave the European Union was scheduled for October 31, while Steph’s baby is due in November.

In view of her 382,000 Twitter followers today, she wrote: “So it’s going to be baby before Brexit for me!

“I have been wondering which would come first. Am hoping I don’t need a #flextension.”

Many of the Watchdog star’s fans flocked to her post to comment, with one writing: “The way it’s going you’ll be a grandparent before we leave! x.”

A second commented: “Good luck with birth of your baby!”

“Totally in the same boat – was having a sweepstake on a Brexit baby,” a third replied.

Steph first announced her pregnancy news back in July and later told BBC Breakfast viewers she is due in November.

The host is pregnant with her girlfriend, a television executive, whose identity is unknown.

Last week, Steph stepped down from her role on BBC Breakfast after over eight years on the show.

The host revealed she will be fronting her very own self-titled show on Channel 4 from spring next year.

In a lengthy statement confirming her exit, Steph McGovern called her co-stars “show offs” and told fans she was due “any day now”.

Addressing the “kind messages” she had received from fans, she began: “Its been a bit overwhelming and given I’m due to give birth any day now, I thought I better take a day or two before I tweet.”

She added of her team: “I love them. They have looked after me through thick and thin, and made me sound and look better than I really am.”

Speaking of her co-presenters which include Dan Walker, Louise Minchin and John Kay, she joked the team are “the most supportive of group of show-offs you’ll ever meet”.

She added: “Whatever is happening in each of our lives, we’ve covered for each other, fought for each other and of course regularly taken the mick out of each other too.”(sic)

The mum-to-be went on to thank her fans for their encouragement and support as she added: “Thank you, you got me through the ups and downs too. Always making me feel welcome in your homes.

“And I haven’t [got] tired of, ‘I often wake up with you’ being one of the most common things said to be in the street.”

Confirming her pregnancy news on Twitter back in July, she wrote: “I see my news is out. Yep, I am no longer with pot belly… I am now with child. #babyonboard.”
