PS5 release date news: Sony drops next-gen PlayStation bombshell in Xbox 2 battle

Sony has made a bold claim ahead of the PS5 console’s 2020 release date.

In the next-gen battle between the PS5 and Xbox 2, Sony has dropped a major bombshell.

In a series of job adverts posted by Sony, the PlayStation 5 manufacturer claims the new console will be the fastest ever.

While this could just be pre-release bluster aimed to hype the console, there’s a chance Sony may know more than we do.

“You will be managing distributed systems that are powering 100+ million PS4 consoles that deliver immersive gaming experiences,” reads the job advert.

“You will also be one of the leaders of an elite team that is super excited to launch the upcoming world’s fastest console(PS5) in 2020. You will love working at PlayStation if you have a strong passion for systems, availability, and resiliency.”

Interestingly, Sony would eventually remove the claim from the PlayStation job adverts.

Earlier this month it was confirmed that Sony’s next-gen console would indeed be known as the PS5 and would have a late 2020 release date.

The belief is still that the console will be officially unveiled next February, followed by select showcases throughout the year as we countdown to launch.

PlayStation 5 system architect Mark Cerny recently discussed the new console’s impressive specs.

Instead of working at a software level, Cerny confirmed that the console would gave ray-tracing acceleration in the GPU hardware.

The PS5 will also feature a completely redesigned user-interface, where the emphasis will be on seeing your options and instantly joining games.

“Even though it will be fairly fast to boot games, we don’t want the player to have to boot the game, see what’s up, boot the game, see what’s up,” Cerny explained to Wired.

“Multiplayer game servers will provide the console with the set of joinable activities in real time. Single-player games will provide information like what missions you could do and what rewards you might receive for completing them – and all of those choices will be visible in the UI.

“As a player you just jump right into whatever you like.”
