NASA news: Space agency's newest VIPER Rover will hunt for water on the Moon in 2022

The South Pole’s pockmarked surface is home to many deep craters that never receive sunlight.

In these regions of permanent darkness, layers of ice water do not evaporate away.

If astronauts can gain access to the ice, they will have a supply of water but also of oxygen and hydrogen – two key elements of rocket fuel.

According to NASA, there are potentially millions of tons of water lurking in this as-of-yet unexplored part of the Moon.
