Britain is officially on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) as the clocks went back one hour this weekend. The purpose of the change is to make better use of daylight. The time change happens twice a year and sees the clock go back in the autumn and forward in the spring.

When did the clocks go back last night?

The clocks went back on early Sunday morning at 2am.

As the clock struck 2am it went back to 1am, giving Britons up and down the country and extra hour of sleep.

When do the clocks go back and when do they go forward?

The clocks change in the UK is a twice-yearly event, giving Britons either an hour more or an hour less of sleep.

In Britain, the clocks go forward one hour at 1am on the last Sunday in March, and back one hour at 2am on the last Sunday in October.
