Arsenal must help finance Mesut Ozil exit as Emirates outcast offered fresh start in MLS

Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil is being offered the chance to rebuild his career in MLS with three teams chasing the playmaker’s signature.

The Gunners’ £350,000-a-week flop has been frozen out at the Emirates by Unai Emery and has only made a handful of appearances this season.

Arsenal are keen to get him off their wage bill but Ozil isn’t in any hurry to leave the club with another 18 months left to run on his bumper deal.

The German midfielder has been attracting plenty of interest in the United States since DC United put him on their wanted list to replace Derby County-bound Wayne Rooney.

While LA Galaxy are looking for a designated player now that veteran Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic appears to be moving on.

David Beckham’s Inter Miami have also sounded out Mesut Ozil’s advisors about a potential move ahead of them joining the league next year.

Arsenal know they will have to help finance any moves away from north London as Ozil’s wages are beyond the means of any MLS side.

Emery has faced criticism for casting Ozil as Arsenal have battled to find consistent form so far this season.

He says, though, that the club’s board are behind his decision to leave out the former Germany international.

“Previously, we were all speaking between us to take that decision,” Emery said.

“Here, we have one agreed strategy – as a club and as a team – because the most important thing is the club, the team, and then finding a performance.

“I know all the supporters want to know something more but now is not the moment. We’ll decide when to say more.”

Arsenal will be back in Premier League action on Sunday afternoon when they welcome cross-city rivals Crystal Palace to the Emirates.

It remains to be seen whether Emery will consider bringing Ozil back into the fold for the Eagles’ visit.
