Huw Edwards: BBC newsreader, 58, chases burglar while in pyjamas after raid on his home

Huw Edwards, 58, who regularly fronts the BBC News at Ten, is said to have chased the intruder down a south London street last month. The newsreader found a burglar in his home at 5.30am and looked to take on the intruder before they reportedly took off in his Mercedes, according to The Sun. A source told the publication: “Huw bravely ran out of the house after the burglar, but he was a whisker too late. “He saw the criminal driving off in the car and trudged back to the house.

“He put it down to one of those things which happen when you live in a city.”

Police were called to the break-in at their home and forensic checks were carried out for fingerprints and DNA samples were also taken.

The Met Police told the newspaper: “All lines of inquiry are being pursued. No arrest has been made at this stage.

“Police were called on September 16 to a report of a burglary, and that a Mercedes had been stolen. There was no reported injury.”

The Mercedes is believed to have been recovered the following day and detectives are still investigating the break in.

The father-of-five was at home with his BBC producer wife Vicky Flind.

Speaking to The Sun, Vicky said about the incident: “We had a robbery, but I don’t really want to comment on it.”

The news comes after the small screen favoruite recently opened up about the disadvantages of his three-stone weight loss.

The Welsh broadcaster has undergone an incredible transformation to his appearance which he puts down to a rigorous boxing regime.

But he admitted to being slightly underwhelmed by the public’s response to his hard work, as he lamented his loss of fan mail.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror at the RTS Awards earlier this year, he explained: “I don’t get fan mail anymore though. Letters don’t come.

“I used to have a bundle of mail to open every week.”

The presenter added that despite this pitfall he has continued with his training.

“The boxing training is going pretty well. I do boxing two or three times a week,” Huw mused.

“I do TRX too, but only once a week in the park otherwise people will think I am going completely mad.”

TRX provides suspension training, utilising ropes to enhance strength by working against the user’s own body weight.
