Barbara Windsor makes rare public appearance to see Les Miserables starring Matt Lucas

Dame Barbara Windsor, 82, headed to the theatre last night to watch a West End production of Les Miserables at London’s Gielgud Theatre.

After the performance, the legendary actress, who is best-known for portraying Peggy Mitchell in EastEnders, headed backstage to meet the stars of the show Matt Lucas and Michael Ball.

Sharing a snap of the trio on his Instagram account, the 45-year-old comedian, who plays Thenardier in the stage show, wrote: “Another day, another superstar in the audience at Les Mis.”

In the picture, which was shared with his 75,800 followers, Matt, Barbara and Michael, 57, sport big smiles on their faces.

Barbara, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014, wears her blonde hair in her signature up ‘do and looked to be in good spirits.

Instagram users were quick to take to the comments section of the picture to express their delight at seeing the West End stars.

One user wrote: “What a wonderful photo. Three absolute legends.”

Another added: “So lovely to see #damebarbarawindsor”, while a third said: “She looks great…..#DameBabs.”

Following their meeting, singer Michael, who plays Inspector Javert in the musical, took to Twitter to share his thoughts.

He told his 93,800 followers: “There really is nothing like this Dame. How gorgeous to see you lovely Bar and Scott.”

Barbara, who is married to fellow actor Scott Mitchell, 56, played the role of TV landlady Peggy until May 2016 and is now an ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society raising awareness of the disease.
