Asteroid alert: NASA just tracked two large asteroids flying past Earth

Asteroid 2019 UJ1

The first asteroid that approached Earth on Wednesday is the Apollo-type rock 2019 UJ1.

The asteroid was first spotted in the solar system on October 20, 2019.

NASA estimates the rock measures somewhere in the range of 26ft to 59ft (8m to 18m) across.

Despite its deceptively small size, the asteroid could be as long as a bowling lane.

The asteroid approached our planet around 4.33am BST (3.33am UTC) on Wednesday.

When this happened, Asteroid UJ1 was flying by at a speed of 11.99km per second or 26,820mph (43,164kph).
