YouTube adverts: Can you remove ads from YouTube videos?

With 300 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, the platform allows views to consume an incredible amount of content for free. However, everything comes at a cost and this takes the form of adverts on YouTube. Although ads can usually be skipped after a few seconds, which, long-form adverts are increasingly prevalent. Excpress.co.uk explains how to remove adverts on YouTube.

YouTube Premium offers users advert-free videos, which can be kept them playing when using other apps or when the screen is locked.

The premium version of YouTube costs £11.99 a month for individuals or £17.99 for a family plan – significantly more than either Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.

Students can shave a £5 off membership, taking YouTube Premium – formerly known as YouTube Red – down to £6.99 per month.

An important thing to note is prospective users should not sign up for YouTube Premium via the YouTube iOS app.

To land yourself a reduced membership to either YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium, users must be “enrolled as a student at a higher education institution in a location where YouTube student memberships are offered”.

Both the institution and student must be registered with SheerID for digital verification.

Any discount will not apply via the app, as it only applies to new YouTube subscribers.

However, first-time subscribers to YouTube Premium do not need to pay before they hit play.

The first time users sign up for YouTube Premium, they receive 30 days before the company will charge.
