Steph McGovern: Carol Kirkwood reacts to shock exit news ‘Remember your first day…’

BBC Breakfast star Steph McGovern, 37, who is pregnant with her first child, shared a lengthy post addressing her exit on Twitter yesterday.

The presenter thanked her co-stars, production team and fans for their support over the years after it was revealed she will front her own show next year.

Weather star Carol Kirkwood, 57, responded to Steph’s post, writing: “You have been a joy to work with babe. Will miss you.”

She added: “Remember your first day…. star quality from the word go. GOOD LUCK! Book me in for babysitting duties xxx.”(sic)

As part of her lengthy statement, Steph McGovern jokingly branded her co-stars “show-offs” as she reflected on her time on the show.

She wrote: “The most supportive of group of show-offs you’ll ever meet.

“Whatever is happening in each of our lives, we’ve covered for each other, fought for each other and of course regularly taken the mick out of each other too.”(sic)

On her fans, she added: “Thank you, you got me through the ups and downs too. Always making me feel welcome in your homes.

“And I haven’t [got] tired of, ‘I often wake up with you’ being one of the most common things said to be in the street.”

The mum-to-be concluded her post, writing: “Time to hang up my breakfast hard hat and hi-vis. And say, thank YOU.”(sic)

Many of Steph’s other former co-stars and friends flocked to her post to comment.

Victoria Derbyshire wrote: “What lovely words. GOOD LUCK with your baby, your new job, your whole rest of your life! You deserve total happiness and joy.”

Nicki Chapman added: “We love you! Exciting times ahead. New mum. New show. Fresh adventures.”

BBC Breakfast star Dan Walker shared Steph’s post with the caption: “We love you too Steph.”

From next spring, Steph will front her very own show The Steph show on Channel 4.

In a statement, she said: “This is a dream come true for me and I can’t wait to get started next year.

“Just a small matter of having a baby first!

“It’s going to be nerve-wracking, but there’s nothing I love more than finding out what makes people tick, whether it’s a famous face or someone we haven’t met yet who has a cracking story to tell.”

Th presenter, whose girlfriend’s identity is unknown, previously confirmed her unborn child is due in November.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
