Conor McGregor says Khabib Nurmagomedov rematch 'will happen' in Moscow

Conor McGregor has claimed he is ready to go head-to-head with Khabib Nurmagomedov once again, as he urged his bitter rival to step up to the plate and get the rematch on in Moscow.

Ugly scenes marred UFC 229 last October when the lightweight champion Khabib sparked a mass brawl after beating The Notorious via fourth-round submission.

McGregor was slapped with a six month ban for his involvement, while Khabib was forced to sit out for nine months for his actions.

The undefeated 31-year-old recently beat Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi in his return bout and wants to fight in his homeland Russia when he next enters the ocatgon.

And now McGregor has claimed he is ready to give the world the rematch they’ve all been waiting for.

“I have some news for you all for the world here,” he said at a press conference in Moscow, where he is promoting his new whiskey called Proper No. Twelve.

“For me, I wish to compete here in Moscow, Russia.

“We know this is known and we know what bout I am seeking here in Mother Russia.

“The people of Russia deserve this inevitable rematch here in Moscow.

“It will happen, however I am not waiting around for that man.

“He is a known pull-out and does not take risks so for me, I am not waiting around.

“I would like to announce the return of The Notorious Conor McGregor will take place on January 18 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada so that is my comeback.”

The Notorious has outlined a three fight plan, which he believes is likely to end with a rematch with Khabib at the end of next year.

“That will be the beginning of my season. I will then look to compete against the winner of Nate Diaz – Jorge Masvidal for the bad motherf***er title,” he added.

“Obviously I have history with Nate Diaz, we are set to make the trilogy bout, so we will see how that goes.

“Then I will seek [a] Moscow bout and it will be against the winner of Tony Ferguson – Khabib Nurmagomedov … that is the bout we want. We want this bout in Moscow.”

Khabib’s father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov recently urged McGregor to come to Russia for the rematch.

He told YouTube channel Zhivina100: “If McGregor wants it, then Moscow is waiting for him.

“He said once that he has more fans here than Khabib.

“We want to host him in Moscow, he is welcome – we are waiting.”
