Ikea shoppers can get free meatballs across the UK this weekend – where to get the offer

Ikea meatballs are a big draw for customers heating to the Swedish store.

The furniture brand famously offers the delicacy alongside its popular flatpack furniture.

Two million Ikea meatballs are sold everyday, but now it seems a competitor is hoping to get a slice of that action.

Italian restaurant Frankie and Benny’s are coming for Ikea in a bid to prove their meatballs are better.

Frankie and Benny’s is offering Meatballs Al Forno or Vegan Plantballs Italiano for free this weekend to anyone who has shopped in Ikea that weekend.

Eighteen restaurants in the UK are getting involved, so where can you get the free meatballs?

Elise Ash, Frankie & Benny’s brand director, said: “We’re really proud of our new Meatballs Al Forno and Plantballs Italiano recipes so who better to serve it up to than the home of meatballs in the UK.

“We felt exhausted shoppers could do with a hearty Italian-American inspired dish before they head home for some DIY and hopefully the free meatballs offer will save them dishing out even more money.

“It’s all a bit of light-hearted fun and we can’t wait for the nation to taste the new recipe.”

Ikea’s meatballs are sold in store with mashed potatoes, lingonberry jam and a creamy gravy.

Frankie and Benny’s meatballs, on the other hand, are served with a tomato and chilli sauce with cheese.

From one food popular with Britons to another, Marks & Spencer’s Christmas Colin the Caterpillar caused a near melt-down on Twitter when it was revealed.

One simply wrote: “M&S HAVE DONE A CHRISTMAS COLIN.”

Another said: “This is the best news! (Except I am very scared of the sugar high as normal Colin makes me go a bit funny)”

“How fabulous. Why has it taken so long?” one Colin-fan wondered.

“For anyone who is sad that Summer is over, take note that @marksandspencer are here to give us something to look forward to!” another said.
