Jussie Smollett Chicago Case Continues As Judge Denies Motion To Dismiss The City’s Lawsuit

According to a report from PageSix.com, a judge denied the motion of Jussie Smollett’s lawyer to dismiss the city of Chicago’s lawsuit against him for wasting taxpayer dollars on account of the faux hate crime allegations he found himself embroiled in near the beginning of the year.

In other words, it appears as though the Empire actor may still have to hand out $130,000 to pay for the overtime hours the police are owed from investigating the supposed hate crime. Last month, lawyers for the infamous actor filed a motion to dismiss the city’s lawsuit on grounds that it was a “vindictive effort to prosecute charges.”

Reportedly, Jussie’s lawyers argued he shouldn’t have to pay the police $130,000 due to the fact he couldn’t have known how much the police would have to pay their detectives to look into the investigation of the allegedly bogus hate crimes.

The presiding judge, Kendall, denied the motion to dismiss the case. It was back in January when the actor first said to authorities and the mainstream media that he was the victim of a racially and homophobic motivated attack.

The police of Chicago conducted a thorough investigation of the allegations, including combing through hours of footage and speaking with dozens of people. However, it didn’t take long for the police to discover holes in the Empire star’s story.

The police department later concluded that he concocted the entire story as a form of self-promotion, and then arrested him for filing a false police report. Moreover, the actor came under fire for referring to himself as the “gay Tupac,” after the news hit the media.

Earlier this year, the allegations against Smollett became a trending topic once again with the release of Dave Chappelle’s new stand-up comedy special on Netflix, Sticks and Stones, in which he poked fun at the actor’s claims.

Despite receiving a negative review from mainstream critics, audiences adored Chappelle’s special, moreover, the way Dave referred to him as “Juicy Smooeeay,” became an internet meme.
