Champions League top scorers: Where Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi rank this season

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have dominated the Champions League top scorers list for years.

Ronaldo alone have topped the list seven times, while Messi have won it five times.

The Argentinian have won all the Champions League top scorer awards with Barcelona, while Ronaldo won it once with Manchester United and the rest with Real Madrid.

The Portuguese football legend, who is currently playing for Juventus, won the award for the first time in the 2007/8 season when he was still with the Red Devils.

The following year he was beaten by Messi, who continued to win it for four seasons.

But from 2012/13 to 2017/18 Ronaldo again dominated at the top of the list, and scored a record 17 goals in the 2013/14 season.

In fact, in total, Ronaldo is the all time top UEFA Champions League scorer with 127 goals in the tournament.

Messi comes second with an impressive 112 caps for Barcelona in the tournament.

So far this season, however, Messi is yet to score a goal after five attempts in his 121 minutes on the pitch but has managed one assist.

His Portuguese rival has scored one goal after eight attempts and 180 minutes on the field.

The results so far leaves the two football legends far down the list of top scorers, but the Champions League has only just begun and it wouldn’t be surprising if they both topped the list at the end of the season once again.
