Carragher gives damning assessment of Tottenham under Pochettino – ‘This is the end’

Tottenham have reached the end of a cycle under Mauricio Pochettino and will never win the Premier League or Champions League with their current squad, claims Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.

Spurs have had a tough start to the season, currently sitting seventh in the Premier League table with 12 points from their opening nine matches.

Pochettino’s side fell just short of an historic Champions League triumph last term, losing to Liverpool in the final in Madrid in June.

The Argentine boss is yet to win any silverware during his five years in charge at Tottenham.

Carragher believes there are both physical and mental problems in the Spurs squad.

And he reckons major surgery is now needed going forward to fix the issues they have.

“Well how I explain it is I think this cycle is over, of this Tottenham team,” Jamie Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“And I love this Tottenham team and I love this Tottenham manager.

“But last season, getting to the Champions League final, in some ways papered over the cracks slightly.

“They lost 20 games last season, so that was my worry for them – ‘are they going to get back to what we’ve seen in the last few years at the start of this season? Or has this team sort of realised that it’s not quite good enough to win the league, to win the Champions League?’.

“It feels to me like it’s physical, mental in the dressing room also, but there’s a lack of intensity and I just think it comes from the fact that they’ve been together so long and they’re just not quite good enough.

“And it looks to me like this is the end of it really.

“They’re never going to win the league or the Champions League now, they’re just about qualifying for the top four and that was the remit three or four years ago.”
