Moneypenny has been a supporting cast member throughout the James Bond movies, alongside M and Q. And in her latest incarnation, she’s a field agent turned secretary, first introduced as Eve in the opening scene of Skyfall. Since then Naomie Harris has played Moneypenny in Spectre and is returning for No Time To Die. But now the 43-year-old has confirmed that Moonlight director Barry Jenkins is interested in helming a Moneypenny movie.
The first whiff of this arrived in June 2017 when The Tracking Board’s Jeff Sneider claimed he’d heard Bond producers were exploring the idea.
The writer for the Hollywood Insider website tweeted: “I’ve heard the Broccolis have caught Universe Fever and would love to explore other corners of the Bond franchise… simultaneously.”
Meanwhile, a No Time To Die set leak claims that Lashana Lynch’s Nomi has replaced Craig’s Bond as 007.
After all, Bond retired from MI6 at the end of Spectre so his Double-O number would be up for grabs.
And with No Time To Die expected to be Craig’s fifth and final Bond movie, perhaps Nomi will get her own 007 spin-off before the franchise is rebooted again?
If rumours are true that Bond producers are considering spin-offs in their franchise, it wouldn’t actually be the fist time.
A solo outing in some form was considered for Michelle Yeoh’s Wai Lin from Tomorrow Never Dies.
While Halle Berry’s Jinx from Die Another Day almost allegedly had her own movie.
According to Variety, Bond screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade were hired to write the script and Stephen Frears was set to direct. However MGM “pulled the plug”, apparently due to “creative differences.”
No Time To Die is released in UK cinemas on April 2, 2020.
