Jordan Henderson vows Liverpool will 'make sure' Man Utd display 'doesn't happen again'

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson promised fans that the team’s disappointing display against Manchester United will never happen again.

The Reds’ winning streak came to an end at Old Trafford with a 1-1 draw which saw Jurgen Klopp’s men struggling to exert their usual dominance, especially during first half.

But Henderson insists there are no excuses to justify that performance but the team will learn from it and make sure they never repeat it.

The Liverpool skipper expected a tough game in Manchester but is still leaving disappointed with the result.

Henderson said: “No excuses. We’ve got to be better than we were in the first half.

“If you’re not, you get punished. We kept fighting, we’ve got a point and we’ll move on.

“We knew it would be a tough game. They have some top, top players.

“The form might not be what they want but in any given game – with the fans behind them – we knew it would be difficult.

“We’ll be disappointed by the performance, learn from it and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

United opened the scoring with Marcus Rashford’s controversial goal after 36 minutes.

Liverpool complained for a foul on Divock Origi from Victor Lindelof in the build-up.

Sadio Mane’s equaliser was then ruled out by VAR for a handball shortly before half-time.

However, Klopp’s men fought back and made it 1-1 five minutes before full-time with Adam Lallana following a stunning assist by Andy Robertson.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was also not pleased with the performance and suggested his former club may be dealing with a mental block every time they visit Old Trafford.

Carragher said: “I always talk about Everton having almost a mental block when they come to Anfield, and watching Liverpool here, it’s almost like it’s a mental block.

“It’s not the same team you usually watch.

“I said before the game, United away is always a tough game and you can lose it but it’s the performance more than the scoreline that is the biggest worry for Liverpool.

“Every time they come to Old Trafford, it is the same problems.”
