Wanted: Saul Niguez

Manchester United want to sign Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez.

That’s according to Spanish publication Diario AS, who claim Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are monitoring the 24-year-old.

The Spanish international signed an eight-year contract with Atletico in 2018, which means the Spanish outfit are under no obligation to sell.

That could mean Ed Woodward and Co. will have to trigger the £130million release clause in Saul’s contract.

Diario AS add that Saul is NOT viewed as a priority signing like Juventus forward Mario Mandzukic – but is of interest.

Brandon Williams signs

Brandon Williams has signed a new long-term deal with Manchester United after making his first-team breakthrough.

The 19-year-old United fan has been with the club since the age of seven and made his debut in last month’s Carabao Cup clash with Rochdale.

Williams’ first start came the following week at AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League and the left-back has now agreed a new contract until 2022, with the option of a further season.

“This season has just been better than I expected, being a first year,” he said. “Getting into the squad, obviously doing well in the league and keeping going until the end of the season.”

Aston Villa raid

Manchester United should raid Aston Villa for three of their star players in January, according to former Red Devils striker Alan Brazil.

Brazil reckons defender Tyrone Mings and midfielders Jack Grealish and John McGinn would improve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

“When we’re talking about who United might target, they could do worse than Mings, Grealish and McGinn couldn’t they?” Brazil said on talkSPORT.

“If they are going to spend a couple of hundred million… I don’t want to decimate the Villa side but that would.

“If you are Ole and you’re going to Ed Woodward that is who I would want. Do you not think those three would improve United? “Put the three of them in United’s side and I think they finish top five.”

Lionel Messi discusses retirement

Lionel Messi says he will be the first person to know when it is time to retire.

The Argentine has maintained incredible levels of consistency over 15 years at Barcelona but has suffered an injury-hit start to this season.

“You realise yourself how long you can continue,” the Barcelona legend said. “I’ll find out over time. I’ll be the first to say: ‘I’ve come this far and I can’t do it anymore,’ or that I feel good to carry on.

“Over the years I will find that out.”
